SBR stands for styrene-butadiene rubber, is a synthetic rubber commonly produced worldwide. Styrene-butadiene or styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) describe families of synthetic rubbers derived from styrene and butadiene.

A surround’s quality has enormous impact on the frequency response of a loudspeaker. The shore hardness directly affects the frequency of the speaker. Rubber surrounds also endure a long lifetime, almost 20~30years.

Styrene-butadiene rubber offers a range of advantages. It is resistant to water and glycol and very hardwearing. SBR offers good abrasion resistance, outstanding impact strength, good resilience and high tensile strength. SBR is the best synthetic elastomer to use in dynamic and abrasive conditions. The main applications of SBR include automotive parts and mechanical rubber goods. It also has heat aging resistance and delivers good compression set and water resistance. It is often used as a direct replacement for natural rubber, due to its similar characteristics but more economical price tag.

It is the addition of the organic compound styrene that contributes towards SBR’s advantageous strength, abrasion, wear and bonding properties, not to mention its affordability. Styrene-butadiene rubber generally offers superior heat-ageing properties and abrasion resistance than natural rubber. It is widely used in the production of tire tape, hose, wires, cables, medical instruments and various rubber products. It is the largest generic synthetic rubber variety and one of the earliest rubber varieties to achieve industrial production.
